Vickie Martin

“ I can't remember a time in my life when there wasn't music, and when I began to read came the rhythm of words. It was natural for me to move into the visual arts as a result of this. In this world I found I could create rhythms and rhymes with visual imagery. I create a place where the mundane pleasures are celebrated. I lead with the eye - with both color and texture - into a place the mind might not have gone before. My feeling of life - turn the ordinary into the extra-ordinary - is seen in my paintings and collages.  Sometimes you have to play a long time to be able to play like yourself.” Miles Davis

Vickie was born in Atlanta, grew up in Marietta and currently resides in Decatur.  She is the daughter and grand daughter of piano tuners and technicians, giving her the love of music and rhythm that is shown in her pieces.

She received a bachelor of Journalism from the University of Georgia, with a major in film, and a minor in drama.   Her interests are varied, from volunteering for Habitat for Humanity (she has worked on as many as 15 houses), to giving historical tours of Atlanta for the Atlanta Preservation Center.   She currently give a tour of the Fox Theater.  When not painting and studying art, Vickie works in the advertising industry, placing time on television and radio, for such accounts at Home Depot, Bellsouth and many more.

She is a student of the renowned artist - Chery Baird. She is a member of the Spruill Arts Association, and a founding member of both the Shadowline Artist Group, and the Atlanta Collage Society. Vickie's love of music and her life-long love of reading continue to inspire her works.
