Keith BarthelmeusKeith Barthelmeus was born in Peekskill, NY in 1972. His interest in photography began in 1987 when he started shooting for Counter Culture skateboarding magazine. From 1989 to 1992, Keith photographed bands such as Phish, Blues Traveler, Ziggy Marley and Widespread Panic. He studied photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design and soon began exhibiting work in group and solo shows. His photography was influenced by Chuck Close and Reed Estabrook. His pieces consisted of as many as 14 photographs and were as large as 11 feet in height. His subject matter varied from figures to architecture, but his images all shared a similar focus on detail. Keith graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1996 with a BFA in Photography and was honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Photography Award. His work has since been featured in publications nationally and internationally, including the front cover of the London Times. Keith began his professional career shooting fashion, editorial, professional sports and product photography. In 2005, he started exploring digital photography. He found it liberating but missed being able to manipulate and customize each image in the darkroom. He felt that the art of his photography may have been lost. In an effort to regain a sense of uniqueness, his latest body of work is a collaboration of digital images and abstract painting.
