about us
Co-Owners Stephanie Halpern and Caryn Liss envisioned a gallery space that would represent the diversity of the East Atlanta community while catering to the influx of residents and the booming commercial district in the East Atlanta Village. Sabra Gallery was created in 2005 from this vision. Stephanie Halpern, an East Atlanta resident, has 10 years experience in the Arts community. She started out in her late teens selling artwork by Howard Finster and various others. Stephanie has curated a Mary Casat exhibition and has represented Tibetan artwork including Thangka paintings and antiquities. For 5 years Stephanie worked with over 75 international Judaica artists doing customized original art pieces called Ketubahs. With Sabra Gallery, Stephanie hopes to continue to promote and display artwork by talented Atlanta artists and artisans. Caryn Liss, also an East Atlanta resident, has been an art teacher and professional artist for over 6 years. Having a passion for integrating art and culture into community life, Caryn is Sabra’s resident artist whose new and existing works including paintings, pottery, jewelry and more are showcased at the Gallery. Caryn has worked extensively with the East Atlanta Community Association (EACA) and also serves as the 2006-2008 East Atlanta Business Association (EABA) President. Caryn is responsible for planning and executing many of the cultural events for the Village from the Taste of East Atlanta to the East Atlanta Strut Festival and others. She is also responsible for marketing the Village and for rallying the business and residential community to support the Village as an Urban Oasis of Culture and Community! It is Stephanie and Caryn’s wish for Sabra Gallery to be not only a vehicle for their own desires and hopes, but to also be a stepping-stone for East Atlanta’s community enrichment, and to provide an opportunity for local creativity to grow and flourish. Testimonials: "Sabra Gallery! I love it! I went to the opening on Saturday night, had a great time. I met the artist of one of my favorite paintings in the gallery. I can't wait to go to the next Sabra art opening. I think it is a great addition to the village!" Amy Herr |
